Monday Night Zoom Talk – Rev. Vicki Corkell
January 18 at 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM EST$10
“Sex and the Spiritualist”
with Rev. Vicki Corkell
Free love was indelibly linked to Spiritualism and the women’s movement in the 1800’s, and it pointed to the need for change in marriage laws and the rights of women. As an avid historian on the link between Spiritualism and women’s rights, Rev. Vicki Corkell will share this most interesting movement in the early days of Spiritualism that created some necessary reforms and many raised eyebrows.
Rev. Vicki Corkell earned a B.A. from Indiana University East and Master of Divinity from the Earlham School of Religion, a Quaker seminary. An ordained Spiritualist Minister, she served as President of the Board of Trustees of the Indiana Association of Spiritualists at Camp Chesterfield for ten years. She is currently working on her book which documents the lives of two Spiritualist women, Amelia Colby Luther and Mabel Riffle, and their impact on Spiritualism and Camp Chesterfield. The book, Revolutionary Women: Amelia Colby Luther and Mabel Riffle, is due out in 2021.
